International New York Times – “Moscow buildings reach for the sky”
Interesting snapshot in the International New York Times today: not only does Moscow currently hold the record for having the tallest building in Europe, but 6 other buildings in the capital also make it into the top 10. Most of these skyscrapers are located in Russia’s version of Canary Wharf, “Moscow-City”. The architect, Owen Hatherley, may criticise the “bland” design of these new buildings, yet I would argue that it shows the world that Russia aims ‘high’ on the international stage! And even higher in 2014 with the completion of a new 500m construction, which will dwarf all other buildings in Europe.
