Bloomberg’s Best Countries for Business 2014
For the third year Bloomberg has published its list of the “Best Countries for Business”. Though I am slightly sceptical of the restrictive parameters of such league tables, it is always welcome to see Russia climbing a rankings compiled by an internationally recognised organisation.
Russia now sits in the top fifty best countries to do business, and this year jumped a commendable 12 places to 44th. It scored much higher than its BRIC counterparts in the category “Readiness of the local consumer base”, which is unsurprising given Russia’s emergent middle class and significant rise in disposable income. Brazil and India also moved up the rankings, to 23rd and 48th place respectively. China, however, fell again this year and has done so since the rankings were first compiled in 2012. This is particularly interesting considering that China’s close neighbour, Hong Kong, continues to be a favourable place for businessmen and tops this list once again.
Let’s see if Russia can make it into the top 20 next year..!
